Club History

The Cochrane Rangers Soccer Club (CRSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing and maintaining first class soccer facilities for the community of Cochrane and surrounding population to enjoy. The CRSC began in 1985 as a group of 15-20 men, including current members Rob Bowden and Ken Harrison. The club entered the Calgary United Soccer Association (CUSA) as the Pioneers in the early 90’s. The first women’s team joined the Calgary Women’s Soccer Association (CWSA) as the Cochrane Lady Rangers in 2001. Today the organization consists of 13 teams participating in men’s, women’s, and U18’s outdoor and indoor competitive leagues.

We also have numerous people participating in our men's and women's recreational leagues. The recreational program provides a less competitive opportunity for players wishing to keep active and develop their skills. Club members are actively involved in the community supporting youth and adult soccer through such activities as: technical advice, a resource library, coaching seminars, referee clinics, training sessions, soccer camps, and tournaments. Our aim is to make soccer available to all skill levels and with over 300 adult participants and over 1000 youth involved with our club, we are receiving tremendous feedback on the success of our program.

The license of occupation was issued for a term of 10 years to be renewed in 2005 for the development of a soccer facility. These fields were topsoiled and seeded in the fall of 1996 by Austech Group supported by the Cochrane Rotary Club and the Town of Cochrane. These groups, with additional grant support from Alberta Sports and Rec., worked with the CRSC to install an irrigation system in the spring of 1997. The CRSC has contributed many hours of labor and fundraising with credit to local sponsors to facilitate the outdoor fields with improved irrigation, landscaping, goals, player benches, spectator bleachers, and storage shed, and to maintain the indoor pitch at Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre.

The CRSC continues to strive towards maintaining a first class outdoor and indoor soccer program by providing a positive experience for all individuals wishing to participate and develop skills in the game of soccer.
